This is an Anime comic cartoon...The characters are named after countries which are the allies and axis powers of World War II....Italy, Germany and Japan are the Axis Powers and America, England, France, Russia, China ect. are the Allies Powers.
Gentosha Comics started it as a webcomic, First episode was March 28th, 2008. Tokyopop translated it into english shortly after and it topped the NEW YORK TIMES best seller list for manga....Studio Deen turned it into an online streaming series on January 8th , 2010 and was managed by Funimation Entertainment.
The timeline is around or between World War I and World War II. Uses satire and comedy to give a basic history lesson shows cultural diversities. Wikipedia states that "historical, political, and military interaction between countries is allegorically misrepresented in Hetalia as social and romantic interaction between the characters; the webcomic version in particular depicts military and economic incursions using various innuendo.} and this seems acurate from the short scenes i have viewed.....below you can purchase the different series or you can view some youtube videos through these links....
